8 important lessons i've learnt this year:

  1. time heals. eventually. understand, time provides you with a sense of clarity, whether that be of the mind, of the heart or both, simultaneously. there’s a sense of hope that something better will arrive with time. new opportunities, new experiences, new feelings. with time, you will understand how the world is changing for you and just how beautiful that is. time is a gift, it gives opportunity for healing to arrive and when the healing arrives, you are finally able to grow, rise and blossom.
  2. self-destruction goes hand in hand with self-love. without one, you cannot understand nor appreciate the other. for most, this year has been an endless cycle of battling self-destruction and finding self-love. from over analysing personal faults and hidden flaws to eventually overcoming them, or at least attempting to. finding self-love is extremely exhausting, some days will prove to be much harder than others, you’ll fall and you’ll break but that’s okay. let it be. remember self-love is something you must work at, continuously.
  3. become your own priority. you must take time in understanding yourself, nurturing your heart, caring for your mind too, to gain transparency of what your soul really needs, what you must let go of and most importantly to find the favours you truly deserve. because how can another know you if you do not know yourself?
  4. pray. pray. pray. do not be afraid to close your eyes and make a prayer. turn to God when life becomes strenuous, no one listens better than Him. ask for help, seek forgiveness, repent, be thankful, continue to keep your faith in Him. you must believe that you will find peace and that peace believes it will find you.
  5. be unavailable to what no longer values you. learning to let go is one of the most toughest things to do in life. understand, if something no longer serves a positive purpose in your life, you must let it go. do not burn bridges chasing what is temporary.
  6. stay patient. sometimes in life you have to trust, whilst not completely trusting at all. patience is having this faith that whatever is meant to be, will be and what will never happen, can never happen no matter how much or how hard you try. you just have to take life day by day, moment by moment, believing that right now not everything will make sense, but one day it will. remember, patience purifies the soul, cleans the heart and makes you whole.
  7. it’s okay not to be okay. as cliche as it sounds, it’s important to embrace all the heavy moments. all the tears and all the sleepless nights, for they teach valuable lessons. understand, it is healthy to release sadness and to vent anger, however, removing all negativity and finding positivity in life is something to strive towards. you will not master it right away and that is perfectly okay. remember to find a balance between the good and the bad.
  8. do right by others & God will forever take care of you. learn to appreciate those around you and speak of others with endless kindness and warmth. no matter how heavy your heart may be or how inhumanly you may have been treated in the past, continue to show empathy to those you encounter, for God will endlessly shower His blessings over you.
