“My mental health is deteriorating, I don’t seem to be healing and I’m terrified I’ll lose myself again. Any advice on how I can overcome these feelings?”
Firstly, thank you. Thank you for being brave enough to accept the problems you’re facing and also thank you for asking for my help. Please, sit down, make yourself comfortable. I have a few things to get through, so please do read carefully. You see, the truth is, everyone goes through these hardships but it’s how we overcome them that makes us. Life is difficult. Situations can scare us, memories recreate us, the present seems to hate us and the past always shakes us. You cannot expect to be happy every day, no one has good mental health days all year round, we are designed flawed, it’s in our nature to feel and become hurt. See, as humans, we break. We cannot be as wishful as we strive to be, even the strongest of us have our days where it feels as though the world is collapsing on our shoulders and suddenly we no longer have the courage to remain strong. I’ll be honest, there will be days where you’ll feel this sinking feeling inside of your chest as though your sorrows will drown you, where your smile that usually hides the tears while fade because you can no longer hold on, you can no longer laugh the worries away. But always say “Alhamdulilah”, praise be to God, for He has given you a gift, what would suffering be without a blessing right? You see, our hardships give us clarity, they guide us to a straighter path, they remove our arrogance, ego, ignorance, they arrive to keep us grounded. Remind yourself of this any time you feel like you’ve lost your footing. When things become overwhelming, don’t force yourself to tackle the problem straight away, by all means, take a step back and give yourself time to breathe. For a moment take a look around and admire the world, admire how insignificant we are, how our problems are compared to the magnitude of the world and our existence. How are you doing? Don’t worry, take your time, re-read everything you’ve already read if you have to. If you have read this far, please understand the good days are coming, you’ll receive the healing you rightly deserve. Remember all the times you’ve felt this helpless and how you survived every time to get to here. I promise your tears do not go in vain. I know it’s exhausting, I know you’ve shed tears in secret before you sleep and some days you wish you didn’t exist, but you’ll find the strength to make your way through it. I promise you’ll find the reasons to stay alive. You have so much to give, so much of your life to live and there is so much goodness left to find you. Call upon your Lord if you ever feel unworthy, insignificant or lonely. If God cares for every blade of grass, for every petal on every flower and even for those who run from Him day after day, how could He ever abandon you? The same Lord who created you, who gives you life to breathe, how could He ever wish any harm upon you? Be patient, stay humble, remain strong. And just like that you’ve made it to the end, please take a moment. Feel free carry these words with you, let them teach you and if they have helped you in any way, please do let me know. Thank you for reading, I’m sending my love and prayers to you. Promise me, you will not dwell on the past, your time is now so please embrace it. Unfortunately, this is where we depart ways. Please remember to take care of yourself. You matter. You will always matter.
