INTRODUCING MAYSABLOGS!


Writing has always been a passion of mine, ever since I could remember. I have always enjoyed reading and you could say that is where my passion for writing stemmed from. The books I read, as a child into my early teens, inspired me to write and share my creative ideas and personal opinions. Writers like Jacqueline Wilson and J.K Rowling inspired me to be imaginative, bold and creative with my writing. Through my late teenage years, writers such as Khaled Hosseini and Toni Morrison inspired me to engage with current affairs and political issues happening around the world. They’ve further helped me understand how important it is to have an opinion and to learn and educate not only myself but others too. Toni Morrison once said “If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.”

Once I had left school, my love for both written and spoken poetry grew massively. For me, poetry is an outlet, a way to talk about everything with emotion and sentiment. Almost like a journal but it’s elegant, powerful and full of substance. The more poems I read and listened to; the more I became inspired to write my own. Two of my favourite female poets, Warsan Shire and Rupi Kaur inspired to embrace my pain, my anger and my honesty and create beautiful works of art that tell stories. With my love for books and desire for writing, I knew I wanted to take it further so I began a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. I have completed my three years and now await my graduation! My degree took my love for the subject even further as I came across authors and texts I had never heard of and wrote pieces on topics I had never thought to write about before, which helped both my language and writing grow. The growth of my creative writing skills became evident when I received a high first in my final year dissertation which I am very proud of!

Writing isn’t the only symptom of my creative sickness, I’m also a huge makeup geek. Binge-watching makeup tutorials and creating and designing colourful makeup looks is what I’m doing when I’m not writing or reading. I discovered makeup in my early teens and gradually became a little obsessed as I grew older and began experimenting with new ideas and designs. I guess it is another way I express and release all of my artistic energy.

I believe in the saying that ‘you learn something new every day’ and I hope maysablogs will be a platform where many people can enjoy learning something new. I will be posting book reviews where I discuss what books I have been loving, various poems I have written and short but still informative pieces on topics I feel very passionate about sharing. My blog will be creative, inventive and educational. So please, bear with me, while I adjust the roses on my tongue in preparation to write a bouquet of my inner thoughts, feelings and ideas for you all to embrace!
